Have you ever stressed and worried about your body and how you’re going to look for an upcoming event?
What about if you’re about to see people that you haven’t in a while?
If your weight yo-yo’s up and down like mine did, or you suffer from any type of private unwanted eating habits, it’s very common to dread going in public, taking pictures, seeing old friends, participating in events, dating or anything of the sort.
Self-sabotage often sneaks it’s ugly little head in during these times which can make things spiral out of control even further.
Confession: Even though my weight is 30 pounds lower than it was at its highest, I slipped right back into these old negative thoughts and defeating self-talk with the pressure of an upcoming photo-shoot this past weekend.
To combat these toxic thoughts and fears around how I would be perceived by the world, instead of working through them like I know how, I attempted to control my body with a strict regimen to prep.
I caught myself before I spiraled out of control. Phew! and I’m happy this happened because I learned some pretty kick ass lessons along the way.

For the shoot, I decided to show up as me. No drastic measures to prep, I just showed up as I am and it felt f**king great!
This may not seem like a big step for some, but as a girl that was covered in fat toning gel and plastic wrap around her abs sitting in a sauna and doing 2 cardios a day to prep for her last shoot 10 years ago this was a drastic shift.
Maybe I won’t be as lean in the pictures as I was in the last shoot, but I am happier and more self-expressed than I’ve ever been even though I had a few not-so-happy thoughts to work-through in the process.

Nutrition and health is a journey and not a final destination. The more flexible and in tune you are with your body’s needs, the happier and healthier your body will be.
Jedi Mind Trick #1
As you lift the rules and focus on what you can have instead of what you can’t the focus and drive towards “forbidden foods” diminishes.
Jedi Mind Trick #2
When you learn to really listen to your body, and layer in healthy and nutritious choices one by one, you start to crave the more nutritious foods over the not so nutritious – without much effort or second thought.
Result
You can still have your chocolate or treat when you feel like it without it hurting your waistline because as you master this process you end up naturally being drawn towards food that fill you up with energy, life, health and happiness (that also lend a helping hand towards a flat belly too).
