Ever had a moment when you’re feeling kind of “meh” for no apparent reason?
It’s like you’re stuck in a funk, technically you know what you should be doing, but for whatever reason, you can’t get yourself off of dead center.
Maybe you’ve tried all the things to snap out of it, but harder you work to claw your way out, the deeper in the emotional hole you get.
It happens to the best of us, that dreaded feeling of being STUCK.
And no matter how much time you invest in self-development or how much work you do on yourself, you’re going to have those human moments.
Resistance, pushback, and “backslides” happen to everyone.
Maybe you feel like you fell off the wagon with your eating plan. Perhaps you had a moment where you looked at where you are, and it just didn’t seem good enough.
And just like that, that emotional spiral hits, and you’re stuck in the quagmire.
Most of the time, the first instinct is to push yourself out of that negative pattern, immediately if not sooner. Get back to that high-vibe and happy place NOW, or else…
But here’s the thing: nobody goes from the depths of stuckness to the heights of happiness in one fell swoop. There are a few steps between feeling stagnant and feeling liberated, and they’re all steps that you can’t skip.
That means recognizing those moments of emotional stuckness when they show up. It means leaning into the struggle, being with it, and just honoring the fact that at the moment, you’re just not feeling so great.
It means surrendering to what is happening NOW, and without judgment.
It also means understanding that an occasional bad mood doesn’t mean that you’re doomed. It doesn’t imply that you’re broken, and it isn’t saying that you’re a failure.
All it is saying is that this is where you’re at right now.
And the good news is that not only will it pass, but also that you don’t have to force yourself through it to make it go away.
Today I’m sharing four steps to recognize when you’re in a funk, accept the way you feel, and move through those feelings with relative ease and grace.
I’ll show you how to ride that emotional wave and come out stronger, more empowered, and more loving of yourself.
How do you go from a serious hot mess to empowered and de-stressed? And most of all, to simply feeling GOOD again?

Step #1: Accepting where you are right NOW. It might sound a little counterintuitive (like many things I share here on the blog!), but when you’re feeling stuck, the most useless thing you can do is to try and push your way out.
But as you know, fighting your way out is usually the first thing we all try, right? Push your way out, don’t give up, and start feeling like you again…right? Riiight?
I bet you also know that not only does this not work, but it also usually leaves you feeling worse off than you started.
I have my moments when I’m feeling exhausted and drained as much as anyone. Those moments where I doubt myself, feel like I’m stuck on a hamster wheel, and am not accomplishing anything.
That’s when that inner critic pipes up for all of us. It calls you out and beats you up for not being where you wish you were. It tells you that you’re a failure for all the things you haven’t done.
Oddly enough, the more you beat yourself up for not being where you want to be, the less likely you are to take any action steps to get there.
And then the less you get done. And the more that cycle of chaotic thinking perpetuates itself.
I know for me, these are often the moments where I feel like grabbing a cup of coffee, pushing through, and attempting to fight my way out.
But this is also the time to recognize that the more you struggle, the more stuck you stay. The harder you try to guilt and shame yourself into action, the more you’re going to pull back.
Ironically, the most powerful thing you can do is drop ALL the judgment, forcing, and shaming, and look at where you are. And be honest about how you feel.
It might sound crazy, but it’s the pathway back to peace. And it sets you up for the next step!
Step #2: What do you need at this moment? It starts by telling yourself how you feel, whether that be exhausted, overwhelmed, or just down in the dumps.
But make no mistake–once you’ve gotten real with yourself about how you’re feeling, it doesn’t give you the license just to lay around. The next step is deciding to explore something different.
That means partnering with yourself, listening to your body and your heart, and deciding what would help you take the next step to a more empowered state.
I’m not talking about feeling 100% better in one giant leap, either. All you need to do is to decide what you need right NOW to feel even slightly more grounded and loved.
How do you do it?
When that crazy emotional spiral has you spinning out of control, drop your focus from your worried mind down into your heart, and just BE.
Get out of your head and into your body. Find that place of calmness and surrender, and connect with the real YOU.
And then, ask yourself what you need to honor yourself at the highest capacity in THIS moment.
Step #3: Take Action! Once you decide what would honor you the most, the next step is natural–take action and do it! Put your insight into motion and make it real.
Maybe it’s going outside for a short walk. Perhaps you need to close your eyes for a few minutes and breathe. Maybe it’s cranking up a favorite song listen to a favorite song or calling a trusted friend. Or perhaps you need to cancel those plans for tonight and take some time for yourself.
Step #4: Make a Proactive Plan To Handle Those Moments BEFORE They Arise. Now, I’m not going to lie–it’s easy to be high-vibe kind when you’re feeling in your groove.
When you’re feeling good, it’s easier to apply the tools you’ve learned to support yourself! Your body and your brain are on board, and it’s smooth sailing.
So when you’re riding the high-vibe wave, it’s the perfect time to create a proactive plan. The kind of strategy that you can use right away when you find yourself adrift.
And not only can this plan bring you back to your center when you need it, but it can also support you on a daily basis.
The more steps that you take every day to support your emotional state, the more that standing in your power will become a regular thing for you!
So what everyday actions can you take that will keep your spirits up as well as bring you back when you’re feeling down?
Maybe for you, it’s a morning routine, a regular workout, or an evening ritual. It could be meditation, yoga, or simply taking a few moments every day to sit in silence and be in the moment.
Ready to create your personal plan and put it into action? Here’s how to make that happen!
Make a list of 10 things that leave you feeling empowered, connected, and enlightened. And from there, implement these steps on a daily basis.
Because the more proactively you take care of yourself, the less those low times and black holes will happen. And when they do, you’ll be able to bounce back faster and with more gusto.
