Food cravings used to get the best of me!
No matter how “good” I felt like I was doing with my eating plan, a craving or urge to eat would totally knock me off track from my goals.
I remember vividly when I was struggling with binge, emotional and overeating for over 12 years,
I wished daily that there was an easy way out of this.
I wished I could stop eating when I told myself to stop.
I wished someone could pull me out of the food consumed trance because I didn’t trust myself to.
I wished I was normal with food like the rest of the people I knew.
It took me almost a decade to actually realize Food Freedom didn’t have to be so difficult!
I sat on my couch one Sunday morning, bawling my eyes out, feeling guilty for what I binge ate the previous night…
I was over beating myself up and feeling like a failure but I didn’t know how else to change.
I had been reading a few books and learning about the brain and body, and what is actually at the root of this stuff.
I journaled my thoughts after the binge…
I wrote and wrote and wrote…
and read it out loud to myself.
I still remember the day… I could feel that I was on the edge of a breakthrough and was on to something.
The more I read what I wrote, the clearer I got on what exactly caused my cravings and how food was satisfying my needs.
I know this can sound cliche but recognizing the problem was half the solution!
That doesn’t mean my journey was easy.
I learned through trial and error, studies and certifications, failing multiple times and then some more just when I thought I found my way out.
But I for sure knew that I was moving forward.
I was learning from my mistakes, perfecting my tools every time I struggled.
That’s when I designed SOS Craving Cards for myself (just like the learning flashcards for kids – don’t laugh at me)
Every time I sensed some sort of craving tiptoeing towards me, I would immediately pull this card so I could run in a totally different direction. Lol
And they worked like magic and supported me to prioritize food freedom forever so effortlessly.
The changes I started noticing blew me away. I was like wait, what?!
I started feeling powerful after using this technique. Food wasn’t controlling my life anymore!
Then I created a craving card for each type of craving I would have.
One for when I craved sugar, one for when I craved stress snacking, one for when I wanted a second serving, one when I needed more confidence about my body etc.
It served as my own unique accountability buddy. That was the start of it all!
Today when I look back I feel so proud of the growth and freedom I have had because of these cards. Wow, right?
And since then, and leading 3000+ students to break out of the same struggle I was stuck in, I’ve perfected these cards even more!
